Your Fort St. John Moving Checklist

Moving is exciting but let’s be honest, it can also feel overwhelming. Whether you’re up sizing, down sizing, or moving across town, staying organized will make the process so much smoother. To help, I’ve created this step-by-step moving checklist tailored to FSJ families.

4–6 Weeks Before Moving Day

  • Declutter & Donate: Go room by room and decide what to keep, donate, or toss. Tip: Local charities and thrift shops are always grateful for gently used items!

  • Book Your Movers or Truck: The best movers in FSJ get busy, secure your date early.

  • Change of Address Prep: Start making a list of banks, schools, and subscriptions that will need updates.

  • Small Fixes: Take care of little home repairs now so they don’t pile up later.

2–3 Weeks Before Moving Day

  • Start Packing Non-Essentials: Seasonal clothes, décor, books, and items you won’t need right away.

  • Mail Forwarding: Set up with Canada Post so nothing gets lost in the shuffle.

  • Utilities: Schedule disconnects or transfers for electricity, gas, water, and internet.

  • Plan for Kids & Pets: Arrange care for moving day, it keeps everyone safer and less stressed.

1 Week Before Moving Day

  • Eat the Freezer & Pantry: Plan meals around what you have so there’s less to move.

  • Pack a First-Night Bag: Include toiletries, snacks, important documents, chargers, and bedding.

  • Confirm Details: Double check times with movers, cleaners, or truck rentals.

Moving Day

  • Final Walk-Through: Open cupboards, closets, and drawers to make sure nothing’s left behind.

  • Hand Over Keys: Coordinate with your Realtor for possession.

  • Breathe & Celebrate: You did it! Time to enjoy your new chapter in Fort St. John.

Pro Tip

If you’re moving within FSJ, keep a separate box labeled “Local Essentials”—snow gear, work boots, or kids’ activities. So you’re not digging for them during those first hectic days.

Moving doesn’t have to be overwhelming. With the right plan, it can actually feel exciting and manageable. If you’re planning a move soon, let’s chat about how I can make your transition easier! Whether it’s selling your current home or finding the right next one.
